2008 Competition: Issues
Civil Rights/Social Justice - NAACP
From the ballot box to the classroom, the dedicated workers, organizers, and leaders who forged the establishment of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) as a champion of social justice, fought long and hard to ensure that the voices of African Americans would be heard. For nearly one hundred years, it has been the talent and tenacity of the NAACP that has saved lives and challenged America to live up to her ideals of truth and justice for all.
In an effort to capture the collective power of young people across the nation, the NAACP has joined together with FYI - Film Your Issue - to uplift the voices and dreams of young people around the country. Through this competition, we challenge you to boldly address one of the NAACP’s six target issues from a civil rights/social justice perspective:
- Education
- Economic Empowerment
- Health
- Juvenile Justice
- Voter Empowerment
This is your opportunity to be imaginative, artistic, and ambitious as to how you want to capture the opinions, concerns, and suggestions of other young Americans around your target issue.
FYI and the NAACP will select a winning film to be presented at the 2008 FYI Awards Ceremony. The winning film and other top entries will be showcased on the NAACP’s website and premiered at the NAACP’s 99th Annual Convention in Cincinnati, Ohio during a special presentation.
The NAACP is proud to be an organization that has developed many powerful, intelligent, young people who are destined to change the world. Today is your day to embrace the creativity and dedication exhibited by young people across the country and let your voice be heard!
