2008 Competition: Issues

The Environment - NRDC & Sierra Club

We have a decade to reverse global warming, the collapse of the world's oceans, and the widespread loss of biodiversity. Science is telling us loud and clear that unless we act with urgency, we will lose this window of opportunity and the cost of our inaction could be devastating. We can choose a different future, but we've got to do it quickly and each of us must play a part.

That's why the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and Sierra Club are teaming up with FYI - FILM YOUR ISSUE, encouraging new talent and vision in the movement for sustainability and stewardship of the Earth.

NRDC is the nation's most effective environmental action organization. We use law, science and the support of 1.2 million members and online activists to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all living things. Or as Jack Black put it: NRDC is "kick-ass because they sue the crap out of b-holes."

The Sierra Club's members and supporters are more than 1.3 million of your friends and neighbors. Inspired by nature, we work together to protect our communities and the planet. The Club is America's oldest, largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization.

What can you do?

NRDC and Sierra Club invite you to produce a short movie that informs, challenges, inspires or questions. Through the power of film, your creativity could help achieve a more hopeful future for our planet. And remember, the environment isn't just a distant forest or jungle, it's the head of lettuce in your sink and the next breath you take.

We will evaluate all the short film entries for a special FYI – NRDC/Sierra Club Award to be presented at the FYI 2008 Awards ceremony. Several top entries will be posted on both group’s websites for viewing by our millions of visitors.

At the links below, you'll find information about some of our most pressing environmental problems and the ways we can solve them.
